Preparation
Check a worksheet before sharing it
A practical quality check for word placements, maze routes, arithmetic answers and troublesome print layouts.
Match the question to the answer first
Begin with one worksheet and its answer, not a whole stack of copies. Compare their titles, puzzle codes and settings in the footer. A matching title alone is insufficient: two sheets can have the same name but different arrangements. On a library resource, open the answer tab without changing the fixed worksheet. In a generator, generate pending changes before checking the result.
For a word search, trace each answer coordinate on the question grid. R2 C3 means row two from the top, column three from the left. Follow the indicated direction through every letter, including the last one. Overlaps are allowed; a correct placement can share letters with another word. Scan the filler too, especially before giving the sheet to children.
Check the structure, not just the appearance
For a maze, start at the opening above the top-left cell. Follow the solution continuously to the bottom-right exit, checking that it never crosses a wall or jumps diagonally between corners. A dashed answer route can be visually busy in a dense grid, so use the larger on-screen preview before deciding it is broken.
For arithmetic, calculate the answers independently before consulting the key. Check the operation symbol as well as the numbers. In division, multiply the quotient by the divisor to recover the dividend. Keep question numbers aligned while marking: one skipped row can make several correct answers appear wrong.
If the footer or word bank spills onto another page
Select the same paper size in Panlore and in your browser print dialog, choose portrait orientation, and disable browser headers and footers. Start at the default scale. A4 and US Letter have different proportions, so a saved printer preset can conflict with the selection on the page.
If an extra page remains, inspect which content spilled. Shorten a long worksheet title or reduce a custom word list rather than shrinking the entire page until letters become uncomfortable to read. Try fit-to-page if your browser offers it, then check the result again. The final browser preview is more informative than the on-screen worksheet alone.
If answers are missing or printed unexpectedly
The selected preview tab does not control printing. The “Print a separate answer sheet” checkbox does. With it selected, a standard library worksheet should produce two pages: the puzzle and its answers. Clear the checkbox when preparing participant copies, even if the Puzzle tab is visible.
To keep a facilitator copy, save a second PDF with answers selected and a distinct filename. Open both PDFs before sharing them. Do not assume a filename such as “student version” proves that the answer page was omitted.
If printing does not open
Open the page in a full browser such as Chrome, Edge or Safari rather than inside an embedded app window, then try again. You can also use the browser’s own Print command. Mobile operating systems expose printing and saving differently; a missing Save as PDF label is not evidence that the worksheet was uploaded to a server.
When reporting a persistent issue, include the resource link or generator settings, puzzle code, browser and paper size. Do not include student names or private word lists. A minimal example makes it easier to reproduce the issue without sharing personal information.
